Dr. Catherine Sia Cheng Teh

Dr. Catherine Teh is currently Chief of Section of HPB Surgery, Makati Medical Center, President of Philippine Association of HPB Surgeons who was instrumental in its establishment as a Philippine chapter of the IHPBA in 2016, As the Director of Philippine College of Surgeons Cancer Commission Surgical Quality Improvement Program she introduced MDT and goes around the country to help them implement MDT especially in all the training institutions in the country. As one of the directors in the Philippines Association of Laparoscopic & Endoscopic Surgeons, She is a staunch advocate of patient safety and promoter of the project "zero BDI 2020" . Dr Teh is also a founding member in the council of the ILLS being one of the early adopters of laparoscopic liver surgery and her leadership in the Southeast Asian community also made her the founding President of ASEAN Lap HPB Alliance, Her interest in digital technology gave her the opportunity to establish the Philippine Telemedicine of the Philippines in 2015 which reaped its fruits of labor this COVID-19 pandemic by serving the nation in bringing medical and surgical education to the entire nation through its networks locally and internationally. She is also an active senior consultant of the section of HPB surgery and MIS in St Luke’s Medical Center, Her passion in liver diseases and the need for a specialized center for liver diseases made her establish and became the Co-director of the NKTI Liver Center in 2013 and was the Former Chair of the National Kidney & Transplant Institute’s Department of Surgery for which she spent a lot of her time in teaching residents and developing the unique training curriculum that is competency based. A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine & Surgery in 1993, she furthered her training in HPB in Singapore General Hospital, IRCAD Strasbourg, Paul Brousse CHB & Henri Mondor. She is also an alumni o the Harvard Medical School program on Healthcare and Leadership and currently pursuing her Masters in Patient safety. Her expertise also includes minimally invasive surgery and multidisciplinary team approach in cancer, telemedicine, nutrition in critical care, role of women in surgery and patient safety amongst many others. Dr Teh was awarded as one of the most influential Filipina in the world as a thought leader by the Filipina Women Network in San Francisco in 2017 and recognized as an outstanding alumni of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in 2018 for all the ground work that she has laid down in the field of HPB surgery, multidisciplinary team approach, telemedicine and patient safety in the Philippines.
